Why won’t my garage door close?
First thing you should check is your safety sensors. Per code they should be located 4″-6″ from the ground on each side of your garage door on or near the vertical track. Each sensor should have a light, one represents the sending eye and the other represents the receiving eye. Make sure both lights are on and not blinking. You can adjust the eyes if needed.
If the safety eyes aren’t the problem then it could be the safety reverse settings on the garage door opener, if that’s the case then it’s best to call a professional because there is usually more involved in fixing this issue.
Why won’t My Garage Door Open?
This issue could be many things, first thing you need to do is check the following:
- Does the door open a few inches? Check your spring!
- No response when you push the button? Check your power source!
- The motor runs but the door doesn’t move? Possible gear replacement or your garage door opener is disengaged!
How Do I Dis/re-engage My Garage Door?
This one depends on which garage door opener you have. First thing you should do is verify the make, then look for the red emergency release cord like what’s in the photo. Then depending on your unit you will do one of the following:
- LiftMaster Chain & Belt Dr. – In one motion pull the cord down and then back to disengage, to re-engage simply pull cord towards the garage door.
- Chamberlain – This one is simple, pull cord down to disengage, pull cord towards the operator to re-engage.
- Genie – Simple like the Chamberlain units, pull cord down to disengage, pull cord towards the operator to re-engage.
